Drinking in the time of the pandemic?

28.04.2020

Looking back we still can not imagine how the world has changed in the COVID-19 era! Never in our wildest dreams would we have thought social interaction would have ground to a halt by some virus on steroids trying to destroy the human race silently like a killer alien on class A drugs… and yet we are amazed how humans have taken on technology to still be social! Zoom drinking parties and Skype-ritives are being organized every evening around the globe oiling the digital social interaction, have you tried the latest Quarantine yet?

Alright, the WHO has told us to minimize alcohol consumption during the pandemic but we still need to take the stress off right? So consume in moderation!

We are just simple beer distributors, not medical scientists so we trawled the internet and found some interesting studies about beer and how we can beat the virus.

Apparently hop oils are good virus killers according to the studies listed below. Xanthohumol, found in female hops, have proven to contain antiviral properties and phenolics from hop extract are seen as powerful antioxidant. Makes us want to grab a New England IPA as we are writing this (some NEIPA’s count up to 25gr/L of hops so think about the hop oil baby!).

We also noticed that some strange bacteria is hitching a ride with COVID-19 called Prevotella - it lives in your gut and is seen as the culprit attaching your lung cells to cause pneumonia (data below) so again beer could give a helping hand. Getting rid of Prevotella usually is done by a administering antibiotics which often enough you need to take with probiotics. You can also boost your intestinal flora by eating yoghurt, probiotics and have you ever thought of drinking some sour beer? Yup, sour beer is filled with probiotic bacteria - such as Lactobacillus, Pediococcus and Brettanomyces- the good ones that make it taste funky! So building your flora in your stomach could also help...

So apart from magnesium, selenium, potassium, phosphorus, biotin, and a chock full of B vitamins, probiotics and antioxidants in hoppy and sour beers could really be better for you (in moderate amounts). So we really have to toast to your health more often!

Again don’t take our word for it, the data is here, find out for yourself.

Stay safe, Stay home, don’t inject yourself with bleach though.
